Mike Brown has made it clear in the past that he wants a head coach that he’s comfortable with. Marvin Lewis gave Hue a recommendation on the way out and that means a lot to him because of how close he is to Lewis. Plus Hue will be cheaper than these other guys which is also a big plus for Mike Brown.
Brown will have to be really convinced to hire a guy with no prior ties to the Bengals, especially when it comes to Hue. Worst owner in all of sports.
Edit: and yes, it sucks being a Bengals fan with Mike Brown as the owner.

This seemed to be an obvious succession plan when they brought him back on staff

Lewis had no ties to the Bengals. Mike Brown is 80+ now and I believe that Katie will have more say in this choice and she pushed for Marvin back in the day. If it were Hue, they wouldn't be interviewing all these other up and comers in NFL coaching circles. They interviewed the ST coach and the OC too. I think Hue is in that same category. The world just wants it to happen for the lulz.
Of course, I could be wrong and Mike Brown just loves himself some Hue Jackson.

Bengals can’t hire Hue Jackson.
