Why aren't they performance based?? Take Bo... no really, take him. Ok seriously... I got it, he had a contract with a huge buyout but why not performance base the contract or the buyout? Example: "Bo you're the new DC and we'll pay you 2M per year... blag blah blah. However, if you're defense finishes outside the top 20 nationally your buyout will be the price of your first years salary."

Two reasons come to mind for those who have done any amount of business in the lifetime.

1. There are 130 some odd similar positions in D1 football. You find the hotnew person you want and you offer him your contract with heavy incentives. Boom, your competitor ups the bid with guaranteed money and incentives. So you dont get the person you want.

2. You are trying to entice some to come here. You make them an offer they cant refuse.

Both of these are gambles that the person you want is the right person and in this case we got it waaaaaaayyyyy wrong. We guaranteed and enticed someone here that evidently underestimated the job and did not have the tools/effort to get it done and here we are...
