Tenn. has had just as much frickin talent on defense as lsu, so everyone can stop using that excuse.

i have heard this as well. i heard friday after bowl game
fwiw i hope its walker and o instead of chavis. I like chavis and think he will be good here but I think walker would be slightly better

this would be fine with me. i like walker but in the next 2-3 years walker would be in line for a hc gig and we would be looking for a dc again. chavis would prob be here a good while which will also sit well with the recruits and their parents.

i dont see that as a bad thing having a big time dc leaving to take a head coach job.

yeah it might "sound" good for the program but recruits want to know who they are playing for and as we have seen, miles takes a while with these things. Recruits also don't want to be in limbo about their dc leaving or not for every hc gig that comes up. i don't know, maybe im too big on continuity. chavis would be just as good imo and would be here long term. i'll be

What would you rather?
A great coordinator that is being pursued by other teams for a head coaching job in 2-3 years.
That gives you the abitlity to hire another top notch coordinator and the ability to stay on the cutting edge of defense.
Or a decent coordinator that other teams have no interest in, and will stay at Lsu forever.

well your adjectives can describe each person. your opinion disagrees with many others but you are entitled to it. since when has walker been a great dc? don't judge chavis on just this year. if i remember correctly he had some dynamite defenses that got them to championships games...something against lsu last year rings a bell (held the nc's to 14 points).
who said when walker leaves we would def get a "cutting edge" dc? it could go either way, shitty or great. you underestimate the effect changes and lack of continuity have on players and recruits. just saying...

If I'm Les and I want Walker, I am pointing out that he would make more as a DC at LSU than a head coach at NMSU, and being at LSU would give him more exposure to get a better head coaching gig 3 years down the road. My main example would be Pelini who is at Nebraska. I would ask Walker what would be better, going to a program like NMSU now or going to coach Defense at one of the top programs in the country and then have the ability to move to a head coaching gig at a program with a Nebraska like caliber? It seems like a no-brainer to me. But that is only if Miles is set with DW as his top choice.

It needs to be noted that Walker is employed!
and holding out for a HC gig, which means he is way less available than Chavis
I would say, lots of teams would like to have Chavis
I like the NFL experience that Walker has
I like the SEC experience that Chavis has..

if o is included then i can live w/ chavis. say what you want to about chavis, but we will still be improving from what we had. i'm also hoping for some better lb play w/ him.

Well that is debatable, its not a massive drop off like people are acting. Like Tenn has had no talent and LSU is by far the most talented team in history. Over the past ten years they are pretty even.IMO

Well, in the case of Walker, this would be nice ... if only Walker was the one being pursued by other teams as HC in lieu of Walker himself pursuing any and every head coaching position on the horizon he can find.
Sorry, but the later appears to be more the case than the former in Walker's case.
While it's nice to have high end, successful coordinators who are always being pursued BY other ADs with HC openings, who wants a DC who only has one eye and half a brain on the D cause his other eye and the rest of his mind is always looking out for a quick ride out of town as HC at any level he can get? If you do well at LSU at the DC position and, thus, LSU continues to contend as a national CFB powerhouse, ADs will find LSU's coordinators for HC interviews and consideration. There is a difference, a very distinct one, between being a never-ending, continual seeker as opposed to being sought out by other ADs for HC consideration.
That bothers me with Walker - if he wants to come to LSU and be successful as DC and take his HC opportunities as they come to him as a result of being a big part of a successful high powered CFB powerhouse program, that's great ... but if his focus at LSU would be ever-compromised because he's always looking just over the horizon instead of giving his all on the D side of the ball, I dunno 'bout that. I'd druther have Chavis or some other equally qualified DC instead.
Ambition is a good thing, but not if it is always all-consuming, methinks. But that's just me.
