Wouldn't mind this hire.
But if I had my way with it, I'd much prefer a WR coach that had strong OOS connections in Texas...
I feel LSU can seriously raid the hell out of Texas if we tried harder. I mean, OU, TAMU and Texas can only get so many recruits out that state. It is loaded, not to mention distance is much better than Florida. Which is obviously very important to most recruits too.

i think Les is content with McGaughey being his Texas man...we'll see how that plays out, he's certainly a good ST coach
we definitely need a Florida guy too, Williams can do that

ummmmm...that coach is gone. THAT is who is being replaced.
So, the other poster has a valid point.

The more I think about this hire, the more I like it.
One (still good) recruiting class aside, the classes have been fine. That tells me the general recruiting level is okay.
Williams has several great pupils: Hakeem Nicks, Mike Thomas, Greg Little... and others with good production and have made it to the NFL.
His recruiting profile isn't terrible either, as he's lured current UNC stud Dwight Jones, Rashad Mason (beat LSU for him), T.J. Thorpe, Josh Adams, Melvin Williams, etc.

I feel like we need someone with ties to the north east. I know that not many recruits from the north east come down to LSU, but if we had someone with ties to Virginia or PA or Ohio, I feel that our recruiting would be much better. Not that our recruiting is awful.

Williams recruited the NE for UNC somewhat. He landed a kid from CT, at least.

so anything new on this?
I know we probably aren't gonna announce until after NSD for the add'l coaching visits or whatever, but usually haven't we heard a hire's pretty much been made, just not made "official"?

Id be good on hiring this guy. If he has good florida ties thats a plus but Im more concerned about how a coach develops players. NC's wr's have always seemed to be pretty solid.
If you want a coach with Texas ties, then Les should fire Ensminger and get Tim Brewster on staff. The guy has coached TE's his whole career(nfl and college) except the years he was at Minny, is one hell of a recruiter in Texas, and is unemployed at the moment.

I was looking at guys like that too... young guys who are assistants in the NFL maybe looking to move up in the game.
Carter Sheridan stood out, but he's got a lot NOLA ties.
Gilbride Jr. has ties to Krags through his pops.
Steve Spurrier Jr. is an interesting name, though I doubt he'd leave his pops.

What is the burnout factor for a head coach ! How many years till you have just had enough regardless of winning percentage. Other than Joe Pa and Eddie Robinson! Is this recruiting class and fan base malaise indicative of this in Baton Rouge? I think Les will bolt in 2013!
