After striking out with Fisher, I believe Alleva did not want to get stuck in another long-term guaranteed contract with an unproven head coach.
I don't like the hire, but from his perspective, there were no sure things out there. He got Orgeron relatively cheap with little or no buyout. He can cut bait if needed.

Well he definitely ensured he'll be free in the near future. Free from his current job.
