Bowers quits at USM

Southern Mississippi football coach Jeff Bower is leaving after 17 years as
the head coach. His record was 119-82-1. This year's team went 7-5 and is
headed to the PapaJohns.com Bowl In Birmingham. It's the teams 5th
consecutive bowl game, and the 9th in Bower's tenure as head coach. ESPN
radio is reporting Bower resigned, but the Hattiesburg American newspaper
is reporting that he was fired. It's not known if Bower will coach in the
bowl game. WLOX News will have more on the story later today.
