I feel like by this point in his career he would not be a good assistant coach. He can't and probably wouldn't recruit and I don't think his ego would allow him to not be in charge.

You really think Petrino's personality would mesh well with the football coach we have at LSU?

That might be fun to watch.

Hell, Miles should have hired him for the Kansas job. That would also have been fun to watch after the way Petrino got all butthurt at Miles after the 2011 Arky/LSU game.

Nah, just kidding. An a-hole like Petrino deserves to sit at home alone after the way he's burned bridges in the NFL and College Football.

I suspect you might be right. I watched several UL games and it just seemed like there was no fire there. He definitely wasn't having a good time.

His lack of interest in recruiting finally caught up to him. He left UL the first time just before the bottom fell out and poor Steve Kragthorpe took all the heat. He got fired at Arky just before the bottom fell out, and John L.took the heat. This is the first time he's stuck around a program long enough for it all to come down on him, not a successor.

I have no hard feelings with Petrino. No scandals, NCAA trouble, etc during both of his times at Louisville. He did win us a Orange Bowl. Had some nice wins in his second tenure over Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Florida State. It just seems to me he doesn't enjoy coaching anymore

I don't disagree with anything you've said here. I think he's always been a great coach (although it seems that defenses have caught up with his schemes somewhat). My one question when he returned to UofL was whether he could build a sustainable program, which is something he had not really demonstrated the ability to do, as I pointed out in my previous post. Sadly, I think my fears were realized. He did great with Charlie's recruits, and Lamar covered up a lot of sins, but again, he really wasn't a good or enthusiastic recruiter, and there was a lot of troubling turnover on the staff that, over time, led to the team we saw this year.

I'm pretty stoked about Satterfield, however. His teams have always seemed really solid on both sides of the ball, and I'll be eager to see what he can do with ACC quality talent.

You are pretty much spot on. Fans knew first hand the success he had from 2003-2006 and were banking on him bringing that excitement back. Unfortunately after LJ left it pretty much showed some of his major recruiting flaws

Good coach, but he's the biggest douche in the game.

No he's not.
