Coached 4-3 with Jim Johnson and Sean McDermott in Philly. Currently a Pass Rush/Defensive Analyst with the Chicago Bears.

I’d imagine Ryan gave his shortlist of guys he’d want. Interested to see if Nolan is on that shortlist since they worked together for 3 years.

Nah. Feels too much like a Scott Linehan hire. I want to see more youth and/or innovation in the defensive room.

need more guys who grew up in the more spread oriented schemes. Bo was the LB coach but last time he was our DC LBers were monsters who stopped the run. now you need guys who understand how to coach and develop a jamal adam's type safety/LB role.

Unfortunately, 4-3 defenses are really struggling to contain these spread offenses. Not only do you need LB with elite speed (cover in space) and DBs that can play man/zone concepts. But you also need an elite pass rush. At least 1 of your d-lineman has to be unblockable.

LSU needs to be more multiple in their attack defensively.

Nielsen should be able to help that on the DL front. he should have a good understanding of the spread from coaching with SP too.

Maybe, but I’ve been hearing too many good things about Dennis Allen as a play caller. As a D-coordinator you should be able to coach at all 3 levels of the defense.

That’s why I think it’s going to be crucial to hire a well-rounded LBs coach that can communicate and coach up young players.
