WEST VIRGINIA ADDS A COACHING CONSULTANT
West Virginia has contacted the coaching consultant Chuck Neinas for assistance with its coaching search, CFT has learned.
Neinas has a long reputation as a guy who leaves no stone unturned in coaching searches, and that's the kind of guy WVU needs right now. In 2005, Neinas explained to the Associated Press that when he gets hired by a school, he does detailed investigations into everything from the school's budget for a coach's salary to whether the school would be willing to pay for a house-hunting trip for the coach's wife.
When a school like West Virginia hires a consultant like Neinas, it often means the administration wants a big name. And in this case, the Mountaineers may want a huge name: The Charleston Daily Mail reports that West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin is getting personally involved and would love to get West Virginia native Nick Saban to leave Alabama.
That is an extreme long shot, but in one sign that West Virginia could be able to afford such a big name coach, WVU Donor Ken Kendrick, who criticized the school's athletic department after coach Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan, has apparently gotten over his frustration with school administrators. WV Metro News is reporting that Kendrick has pledged $1.1 million to the university.
All this adds up to the idea that West Virginia won't be satisfied with a new coach until it has hired someone whose name will generate
significant buzz.

I know that the governor and Nick Saban are very close friends since childhood. If the governor is coming out and opensly saying that he would like to get Nick Saban, that makes me feel llike Nick has told him to do so. This article truly is a reason for concern.

I hope the EERs land a good coach. They've had a heartbreaking past month or so. They lost a game that put them out of the national title, then they lost their leader. Lots of WV fans have been calling in to Rivals Radio for a long time now and they seem like good folk. Are very appreciative for what they have. All they wanted was for Rich Rod to stay.

I agree, they did get kind of screwed out of their coach. Michigan did to them the same thing that Miami did to LSU. I can understand a coach leaving to go to the pros, but I would not leave my alma mater to go to another school and stay in college. I don't get that.

Yep. And opportunities to coach at a place like Michigan don't come around often. We know what is attractive about the UM job. But, right or wrong, it bothered me some how he abandoned the people who were loyal to him. I like Rich Rod. And to be honest with you, had Les gone to UM, Rich Rod may have been coming here. So, you could say it was only a matter of time before he left.
