He’s certainly not a bad hire and he had a good run as DC there, but it breaks the mold of them going with innovative offensive coaches on the rise that’s worked for them. As long as he hires a great OC, it should be ok. Maybe he will keep the current guy.

Bad move by Memphis if true. They need to continue the route they've chosen over the last decade and go out and find the next Mike Norvell/Justin Fuente. No retreads.

I mostly agree with this, but he is being considered because he did a really good job there before. It was common knowledge that he would be their hire after Fuente left. They likely would have gone that route if not for Odom suddenly being promoted at Mizzou. We only look at him differently now because he wasn’t up to SEC standards.

That said, they probably are better off going the younger OC route. This could be nothing more than Ofom’s friends in the department doing him a solid and giving him a bargaining chip for his other interviews.
