re: Auburn fans: tell me about Chizik as a DC

Then name all the other years Auburn had a great defense under Chizik. He was only an assistant coach for 3 years in 2002, 2003, and 2004. The 2002 defense gave up 23 points or more in at least half the games and gave up over 30 points 3 times. The only times they held a decent opponent below 23 points during the regular season that year was against LSU and Alabama. LSU started their 2nd string quarterback against Auburn if I remember correctly. If you think that is a great defense, your definition of a great defense is a lot different than mine.

The 2002 Auburn defense finished 13th in the country in scoring at 17.8 ppg. Also finished 26th in total defense, 10th in INTs, 23rd in total turnovers gained, 14th in pass efficiency defense. If you think that's "average or below average," than you need to hit up a dictionary.

gave up over 30 points 3 times.
They gave up 30 or more points 3 times. TWO of those being overtime games.
They also held 5 teams to single digit points. And 7 teams to 14 points or less (more than half the games, genius).
The 2003 defense finished 5th in total defense & 9th in scoring defense. This one of those "average or below average" defenses you were talking about too?

Just keep ignoring the fact that the only decent team they held under 23 points during the regular season was Alabama. The rest of the teams they held under 23 points were crap teams like Vandy, Moo State, some directional schools in their non conference schedule, and a LSU team playing their 2nd string quarterback
I also love morons like who make a big deal out of 6 not being half of 13. Let me know when you see any football team play 6.5 games

no way he goes back to being a DC in college, he won a NT as a head coach, albeit only because of cam newton but damn that would be a huge blow to the ego...NT winning head coach goes back to being a coordinator in the same conference.? not gonna happen...

You realize that chizik took over in 2002 a defense that was ranked #48 nationally and allowed on average 24+ points per game right?
So are you trying to say that every single year he coached they significantly improved on defense?
His total defense rankings went
Pre Chiz 2001- #48
Dur Chiz 2002- #13
Dur Chiz 2003- #8
Dur Chiz 2004- #1
Then at Texas
Pre Chiz 2004- #19
Dur Chiz 2005- #9

I am saying I wouldn't consider someone an elite defensive coordinator just because they held down a bunch of teams with losing records, a directional school or two, and a LSU team playing their 2nd string quarterback. That is basically what Chizik's defense did in 2002. The 2005 Texas defense also gave up almost 600 yards and 38 points when they finally played a great offense in the national championship game

Great offense? That was arguably one of the greatest offenses of all time.

Considering none of the DCs before him did it. Doesn't seem so easy
