There Eyes Were Watching God is really beautiful

Alexandre Dumas, “The Count of Monte Cristo”’was the son of a French nobleman and a slave of African descent. I know this just illustrates the point everyone is making about race not mattering but I thought it was a cool factoid that I just resently learned.

Yeah, it was a very good read. Her novel, Moses, Man of the Mountain was pretty good too, and contained a bit of an interesting take on the Exodus, but in the end it hewed so close to the biblical version (except for the dialect) that I just felt it could have been even better if she had explored some of the relationships a bit more.

Frederick Douglass was a great writer and a "go to" read for a first hand account of slavery in the United States. He deserves a place along side Lincoln and the founding fathers in American history.

Until recently, I thought Shel Silverstein was black, Bc this was the black and white pic on the back of the Giving Tree.

If every American citizen were required to read "Up From Slavery" by Booker T. Washington in order to keep their citizenship, this would be a truly great country. No sentimentality BS

august wilson, though his works are predominately plays ... still great to read ...
not sure why people are turned off by the 'social commentary' of black authors ... decent chance a black author has a reason to comment on that ...
