I cant understand why this book is so famous. It seems like the oddest, rambling storyline ever and I just can’t seem to follow it. I’m trying to read it along with my 10 year old son, to supplement his reading while he’s not in school. My son does not seem to be interested at all and doesn’t care to much for it. I know all about the book’s success and the praise it’s received and I know there’s a message and theme in the story but I couldn’t even finish reading it myself.
Last year me and my son read the novel Bambi, by Felix Salten ( translated by Whitaker Chambers ). Now , he enjoyed reading that one!
Anyone out there that loves the Little Prince and tell me what I’m missing out on or how I can approach the book?

If he's not interested, just switch to something else. You don't have to finish a book just because you started it. The most important things is building a love of reading, and it won't happen for him if he's not into the book.

I’ve always loved the little prince. Not sure why.

I had to read it in a French class in college and had the same impression as you. Just didn't care for it.

I had no idea he had translated it into English.
I have a first edition of his book Witness. and a paperback that I reread every so often.

Yes, he translated Bambi, not The Little Prince. I actually learned this while reading Chamber’s book. Well , it may not have been Witness, it may have been Sam Tannehaus’s biography of Chambers that mentions it.
