Ran across this audiobook on YouTube and have made it about halfway through. It's a pretty light listen, and easy to play in the background without worrying too much about details. Certain parts will definitely grab your attention though. Loosely reminiscent of The Last of Us.
quote:
The Fungus is a 1985 science fiction horror novel by Harry Adam Knight, where a scientist's attempt to solve world hunger leads to the creation of a mutated fungus that spreads across England, causing horrific transformations in those infected. The story combines elements of body horror and dark humor as society collapses under the threat of this man-made plague.
The Fungus has received mixed reviews, with some critics describing it as "revolting" while others appreciate its entertaining and nostalgic qualities. It is noted for its engaging characters and a plot that combines horror with a critique of scientific hubris.
This novel is part of a broader trend in 1980s horror literature, reflecting societal fears about science and technology.
