Not at all science fiction but Cormac McCarthys The Road is excellent. Although you may need Prozac after you finish

Finished The Three Body Problem last night and it was great - can definitely tell a difference in style compared with western authors I think. But an incredibly well thought out and interesting story.
Opening half of the story is more of a mystery but it opens up towards the end and sets up well for the remaining two books.
