i think book 3 release date is set for June
I started to look around to confirm, but couldn't find anything to support. Most recent thing I read was that he was apologizing for being 3 months late on his preview chapters. That was in March.

know everyone craps on this Rothfuss guy but it was quite good. Third book coming out in a few months I believe
People crap on Rothfuss because the second book is pretty crappy, the second book came out 11 years ago, and he's a gigantic jackass. Name of the Wind is a very good book taken by itself.
And good luck with the third book coming out anytime soon.

Your probably right on all points, I Dont expect much from book 2. I saw confirmed release dates for book 3 but might all be BS

About a month or so ago he released the prologue for the 3rd book. Outside of the Felurian part I liked the second book. Name of the Wind is def better though. I have no clue how he’s going to wrap up everything with apparently only one book left and yes apparently the author is a douche.

He won't, which is probably why he hasn't released it 11 years later. The only thing that is possible for him to finish up is Kvothe's back history story. Nothing in the current day storyline or with the Chandrian could possibly be finished up in a satisfactory fashion in one book.
And while he released the prologue, he also promised in December to release a another chapter of the book if a certain amount of money was raised for a charity he supports. That money was raised, and he still hasn't released a chapter by the end of May. If the dude can't even put out a single chapter almost 6 months later, he is definitely nowhere close to publishing the book IMO.

I’ve accepted the fact that we will never see the authors of the respective series finish The Kingkiller Chronicles, The Gentleman Bastards or A Song of Ice and Fire.

So like pretty much everyone, I've read ASoIaF. Multiple times.Held out hope that he would finish them. Pretty much given up on that.
Started The Gentleman Bastards thinking it was finshed but found out halfway in to Lies before I realized it wasnt and that it probably nevel will be. So I stopped after Lies.
One of the ones up next on my read list was Kingkiller Chronicles. No way I'm starting that until the 3rd comes out. I'm tired of these dudes.
Even if the books end up being sub par, you at least gave your fans a finished product. There's no shame in having a great series with the finale not being perfect. I personally would rather just have a finished product than wait 10 years for something that will most likely disappoint anyway because it's been so long.

I would totally agree here in some ways, but King rushing through the Dark Tower series after he almost died and doing a crappy job really ticked me off too, so authors are kinda in a no win situation at times.
But Rothfuss and Martin are definitely in their own category, and are totally ridiculous. I give Lynch a little more slack due to the mental illness aspect, but enough is enough eventually there too.

Why I’m reading Erikson for most of the rest of this year. Reading a series that is complete is a change of pace

For Abercrombie fans, should I just keep going into the next trilogy? I have it downloaded and ready to go, but wasn't sure since it's about previously minor characters.
Read the stand-alone books before jumping into the second trilogy. I started the second trilogy without realizing that the stand-alone books existed, and was a little confused on who was who and what their motivations were.
That said, the second trilogy is excellent, and there definitely will be a third trilogy.

I'm on the prequels for the first time. Sharp Ends. Wanted to do that before I started another re-read on The First Law trilogy. I should have just ordered the book and actually read it instead of listening to it on Audiobook. The narrator isn't too good so keeping my interest is tough.

I need to get this book. Other than the shitty narrator, how is it?

Hit or miss. It follows quite a few characters and a few are interesting and a few aren't. It is semi beneficial if you want a grasp of the world pre First Law. But this is the only Abercrombie book I would say that you wouldn't be missing out too much if you didn't read it. Still better than most stuff out there though.
But like I say, I think would have enjoyed it more reading it instead of listening.
That probably didn't help much

Yeah, would agree with this. There are a few interesting stories in there, particularly if you have read all the other books, but it's not a must read like the other one off books. The Shy South backstory one, the Whirrun one, and the Cosca ones are cool if you've read those books.

Which standalone books are you talking about? Sharp Ends?

He's talking about Best Served Cold, The Heroes, and Red Country. All of those tie in to the second trilogy and should be read first.

Ah. Some people refer to those three as the second trilogy so I just wanted to make sure.

Yeah, its kind of confusing. I actually started the "Age of Madness" trilogy before even knowing the stand alone books existed. Age of Madness made more sense once I went back and read the stand alones.
I avoid calling them the second trilogy, because the books aren't connected like and actual trilogy would be.

So it turns out this narrator is the guy that narrates all of Abercrombie's stuff. There was a 25 minute interview with Abercrombie and the narrator at the end of Sharp Ends. His name is Steven Pacey. I'm not sure if he does other stuff but maybe most people like him and it's just me.

Just finished Kings of the Wyld last night. Fun book. I wanted to pick up the sequel, but Barnes and Noble didn't have it.
So I need to choose between Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, or Half a Kind by Joe Abercombie to read next.
I also picked up the fist volume of the Sin City comic. I never got around to reading it during its initial run, but I'm a fan of the movies.
