don't know if I want to try and tackle 7 Mistborn books before I get to the good stuff.

The other 4 Mistborn books are fantastic and way better than the original trilogy (and IMO the best stuff he's written), so I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to read them.

I'm can't answer whether you'd need to read them before Stormlight as I've only read the first one back when it first came out. I decided to wait until the five books were done to read anymore once I found out what he was doing with the series.

I have heard the last book of Mistborn is better if you have read Stormlight though.

Reading all the first 6 Mistborn and Warbreaker will enhance your Stormlight read. Not required but I read Warbreaker after stormlight and missed some very obvious things. Same with Mistborn it doesn’t hurt your stormlight read but you won’t be fully involved. That said do not read The Lost Metal (Mistborn 7) until after you’ve read stormlight 4.

I liked this series immensely. From beginning to end.

Finished Morning Star yesterday. It was by far my favorite of the 1st three. Pretty good conclusion and good fight scene (other than Darrow just putting his hand in the Jackal's throat and ripping his tongue out) there at the end. I guess by the end of this series just nobody is going to have hands

Enjoyed the epilogue and finding out Darrow and Mustang have a child. Didn't see that coming. Mustang and Cassius are definitely my two favorite characters and the only two I would be upset about if they died, Was slightly disappointed Sevro came back to life though when he was shot I figured he didn't die. He normally writes a more dramatic ending for the main characters deaths, not just killing them and moving on.

Probably going to take a break before starting the next couple, but this one was good enough to keep me going and having more POV characters going forward is something I think I'll like better.

Again, it was just the ease that it happened.

It's funny what you leave out...the fact that he was one of the highest scorers on their test and the fact that Mickey made him into a freak physical specimen. Golds follow strength and trajectory, hence he gained followers bc of his physical prowess and battle tactics in the academy.

the jackal being caught at the academy...by the time Darrow takes Olympus, the jackals numbers have dwindled. Not to mention Mustang and her help have grab boots and pulse weapons. Jackal could be a tactical genius but a king against a queen and a rook is cooked 10 out of 10 times.

Point in for every scenario that you have an issue with, there is a simple explanation in the book that you just skipped, didn't remember or didn't comprehend.

Darrow was recruited bc he was different. Youngest helldiver, had motive and the Sons had a way to manipulate his one downside...the physical. So you have a young kid that is bold (helldiver), and smart (instant advanced mathematics in clawdrill cockpit) and now wants revenge. To not consider all of that in your critique is obtuse.

Is Pierce Brown perfect? Hell no.i have plenty of other issues with this series. But his books are enjoyable and storylines have some depth.

Smartest, physical freak, physical prowess and incredible battle tactics. It's almost like you're helping my complaint... that he's too perfect.

This doesn't change the fact that it was a lame payoff for what was built up. My buddy who is the biggest RR fan I know, a guy who travelled to go to a Pierce Brown book signing and reading, even admitted to me that the payoff in RR was a big let down. That's not saying it's a bad book, plenty of books I've enjoyed have had a let down at the end.

Wait. Darrow was better at things because he was a helldiver???? How did I miss that? I don't know how I forgot that seeing as the author mentions it no less than 60 times in the first book.

I don't disagree with any of that.
