I’m a regular user at my local library. But it of course is shut down because of the virus. I hate paying for books I’ve never read before, no matter how inexpensive, especially when I’m trying a new series or author. Does anyone know of an online site or library that lets you “borrow” ebooks?

Well your library probably does. The Houston Library uses the app Overdrive and you log in with you library card ID.

your library will have a link.

Also you can check out used books online for good deals - can always donate back to your library the ones you don't like

If your interested in classics, checkout Gutenberg.org. They have books that are out of copyright.

Look at openlibrary.org. You can check out books just like a library, and they have a more modern collection than the gutenberg site.

I've only checked out books through Overdrive the last five years or so. The last time I was in the library was when I had to renew my card. It's the best way to get books. I was looking for Bruce Campbell's first book and it wasn't listed, so I requested it from the library and within a week I was reading it. This is in Jefferson Parish, btw.
