Up until this past May, I have averaged reading 2 plus books a week, most of my adult life. Since then, nothing. I've never, in my life gone this long without reading a book.
Has anyone been thru a funk like this?
I love historical fiction and miss it.

If you are looking for historical fiction check out Harry Turtledove. He has written a lot of good alternate history books

Yeah I know. Not many 700 page novels.
I loved the Alan Furst books. Turtledove is pretty good as well. Of course, bernard cornwell.

I’m stuck in that funk rn
By trade I’m a librarian
so of course I’ve always read
I think I’ve only completed 3 books this year - so I know what you mean - I think I have a COVID lockdown induced ADD or something
My book list is a mile long but I just can’t - I like historical fiction too

Yeah- I was a voracious reader my entire life but I stopped leisure reading in law school. Partly because I was in a relationship with my now spouse, but mostly because there was so much required reading, I almost felt guilty reading for pleasure. A few years ago, I decided to reverse course and set reading goals. I’m happy to say it worked and I’m officially a bookworm again :)
ETA: accursed kings series (books 1-6) by Maurice Druon should help light the fire again

Thanks for the reply. I'm still trying to get back in the swing of things. Not much to do, besides work here after the storm.

Thanks. I'll check that series out.

That series does look good, thanks

I was in a funk like that for years. Trying to read “classics” just because I thought I should. And wasn’t reading books for pure enjoyment. Finally started reading books again for pleasure and mix up genres to keep it fresh. I lean heavily on mystery and historical fiction but throw in horror, si-fi, YA, Foreign. To switch it up.

I just finished Ken Follett's new book. It was the first book I've read in six months. It was great.
I'm gonna try the Evan Winters book next I think. I've heard good things about that series.

I am experiencing a similar phenomenon. Reading has been an indispensable cornerstone of my existence since childhood. For the entirety of my adult life, I have invariably read every night before bed, unless I was carousing, drunk, sick, or overwhelmed with work. Every single night, at least an hour a night, reading widely and passionately and vividly. Reveling in great books. Recoiling from poor books. Trying to memorize pivotal passages. But always reading.
Then the last two months.
Suddenly, not a single book appeals to me. I'm disinterested and aloof. Sluggish. Apathetic. Nothing stirs me. I cannot settle on what to read, and when I do, my mind skips over the page like a flat stone.
It may be anxiety over current events, my loved ones, my career. But it feels alien and leaves me melancholy.

I am experiencing...
This was my thoughts exactly a month ago. I purchased the new Ken Follett book and just about forced myself to start reading it.
I'm so glad I did. It kind of jump started me reading again.
Good luck.

It’s happened to me as well. Sometimes I find it has to do with how much required (school/work) I have to do.
Check out Kent Wascom’s Blood of Heaven which is his first of a trilogy.
