Why do I still have to pay for it?
"A History of Georgia" was an updated history of the state published by UGA press in the 80's. It was commissioned by Jimmy Carter in 1977, who also wrote the foreword.
How is this copyright protected?
This is my first post on the book board, hopefully one of yall can set me straight.

Production Costs: This includes paying for copy editors, proofreaders, typesetters, cover designers, and physical printing or e-book formatting.
Institutional Subsidies: Public universities typically subsidize their presses, but these funds only cover a portion of the overhead. The rest must be earned back through book sales.
Copyright & Royalties: The author retains intellectual property rights and is legally entitled to royalties from the sales.

I tried getting an out of print book that was originally published by UGA press reprinted recently. It was a huge pain in the arse and I had to give up. It was going to be easier to hire someone to write a new version.

Did you try eBay?
I was trying to have a run of about 500-1000 books printed. The book can be found on Amazon but it's several hundred dollars for a copy because people know they are difficult to find.

While true, you could argue that you already paid once with your tax dollars and are now being asked to pay again.

you could argue
No you can’t.
Every time a book is printed new it incurs printing cost.
Every time a book is sold the authors are owed royalties
By you logic tuition should be free because the buildings are already there.
