For Horror Fans/Fantasy Fans: Anyone read the Necroscope Series?

The first five books are a combination of Horror/Cold War Espionage Thriller. The next three shift to Horror/Fantasy.
quote:
From the undead vampire in the Romanian mausoleum, Boris Dragosani tries to draw an evil force so powerful he will gain supremacy in the ultra-secret paranormal agency he works for in Russia. His official job is as a necromancer - his specialty is tearing secrets from the souls of newly-dead traitors.
And England too has her Necroscope - her communicator with the dead. When Harry Keogh is recruited from by the British Secret Service to take on the paranormal menace from behind the Iron Curtain, the stage is set for the most horrifying, violent supernatural confrontation ever...
The author has tendency to overuse exclamation points, but the books are fantastic and highly original.
I highly recommend this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed them. Very original premise. Always thought they'd make a great television series.

Are these the books where the main character can talk to the dead or something? I seem to remember reading one of these in high school, but never finishing it. I remember a couple of scenes from it; the main character brings a puppy back to life from its ashes, the main character talking to a hooker who was the victim of a serial killer... at least I think that's the same novel.

Yes, he's able to speak to the dead.

I think you read the 4th book first.

I have Necroscope on my Audible app and VERY much enjoyed it. I only listened to the first one cuz I want to actually read the rest of the series.
Thanks for reminding me about that!

Book 2 is a bit of a letdown but 3 ("The Source", I think) is the best of the series imo.

I've read the whole series. The last book really got weird.
