Looking for my next audbile book to start and was considering the Dave Robicheaux series. Should I start at book 1, or does it not matter? If not, which one should I go with?
Other options were:
Natchez Burning - Greg Illes
The Reckoning - John Grisham
Or some other mystery/thriller

The Greg Iles Natchez Burning trilogy is on another level compared to anything by Grisham or Burke. I would start there. All of his books are pretty damn good.

I almost didn't finish the Grisham book. More than 40% of it was a historical look at the Bataan Death March and what happened back home to a survivor. 15% would have been plenty.

I have enjoyed them and started at the beginning. Makes it a bit easier, but not entirely necessary. If you lived during that time, then it's a bit easier to get into the nostalgia.

I’ve read them in order. IMO it helps with knowing background stuff, understanding Dave and Clete relationship background banter, and general regional atmospherics.

I've read the Dave Robicheaux series all out of whack and still love it. With that said, I recommend reading in order from Tin Roof Blow Down on.
Before that Burke does a good job of explaining back story in each book. Each reads as a good stand alone. TRBD forward is like one continuing story.

Really liked the DR series, but started to have a little bit of a problem with a guy well into his 60s doing some of what the character was doing.
