I think he started and saw an easier path to completion (the show) and chose to put his story in their (Benioff and Weiss) hands and do other things (Fire and Blood).
I think the vision of the ending was the same but the path been more detailed.

Has nothing to do with the tv show, imo. The biggest issue with the show was t the result, it was the process. It was doomed when they settled on 6 episodes.
The issue is the web he’s weaved. There’s just too much shite going on and unless he just kills a bunch of characters off, I don’t know how he untangles it.

This is true. Martin pretty much started sucking when his original 5 year gap plan after ASOS didn't work out. He never really recovered and knew how to fix it, hence AFFC and Dance weren't nearly on the same level as the first 3. The poor reception to the show's ending pretty much just was the nail in the coffin for him never finishing.
