I will check it out after I finish. Not a GREAT writer, but neither is SK, and I love reading both of em.

Well, only ever listened to Scalzi. YkwIm.

Enjoyed the learning.

Dan Carlin's podcasts give history blood-dripping fangs. Talk about fun learning.

I am currently on book one of "Red Rising". I'm about 80% though and while I enjoy it, I'm not gaga about it like I thought I would be. I think the end of the game is building up to be a good finale, but does book 2 and 3 elevate the story some?

I listened to the Hamilton biography last summer. It’s good and available on audiobooks.

There’s also a really good podcast series I just finished called “Presidential”. It does about 45 minutes on each president. More personal stuff though, not policy stuff.

The Company by Robert Littell.

Great epic length historical fiction about the CIA during the Cold War

Ok I had to come back and mention that I’m on the third book of Red rising and I am totally consumed with this story. It is very very good and once you go all in, the story really captivates you. Anyone that is into Sci fi and needs a bunch of hours to burn in the car, I highly recommend it.

I am on book 3 of Red Raising liked the first book, second was ok, third was a let down so far ( I stopped listening mid way thought the 3rd book, will pick it up again after the Mistborn series).

Mistborn has been very good though book 2, Brandon Sanderson is a great author and his depth of character development in the series is outstanding.

Just picked up 5 history books this week.

SPQR: A history of Ancient Rome
Mary Beard

The Death of Caesar
Barry Strauss
Very good book, read it last year.

The Twelve Caesars
Suetonius
Been over 30 year since I read this work.

The Commentaries Gallic War
Julius Caesar
Read this one just after high school, there are hidden gems in this work.

The Jewish War
Josephus
Always referencing this work in researching history.

Audible is having a sale, this weekend only. There are some really good ones for no more than $6.95.

No Country For Old Men
Endurance
Diamond Age
Confederacy of Dunces
Forever War
The Idiot

Plenty of other good ones.

Confederacy of Dunces

I purchased this one this morning. Listened for about an hour and returned it.
Well written and amusing but insufferable main character.

I might look at some of the others you list.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde narrated by Richard Armitage is a great audiobook. It's an Audible exclusive, but it's one example where I think the audiobook format elevates the narrative.

I may be alone on this, but I seriously love the audiobook versions of the Cormoran Strike detective novels by Robert Galbraith (nom-de-plume of J.K. Rowling). They are read by Robert Glenister, who does a fantastic job.

If interested, you should start with the first book (The Cuckoo's Calling), as they go in order and would be more understandable that way.

Confederacy of Dunces is one of the most overrated books in history that seems to be so often propped up by people who want to appear to be smart, cultured and cool all at the same time.

And their excuse is, "Well I'm from New Orleans so it really resonated with me."

Book sucks. Ignatius J. is a terrible character to follow as a protagonist.

Maybe people actually like it. I don't know. Seems like a massive try hard book.
