I believe Heaven's Prisoners was also made into a movie. Alec trigger finger Baldwin played Dave.
One thing I would have liked JLB to have done a better job was was with Batist. In a few books he worked for Dave and ran the bait shop and then he was just gone. He supposedly bought the bait shop from Dave but was never in another book after that.
Batist was one of my favorite characters.

I liked him a lot early in his career. Somewhere around 20 years ago or so I gave up on him. The writing got lazy and and repetitive and he increasingly injected his politics.

This also applies to Greg Iles from Natchez.
Early books by both of these authors are fantastic - I've read most of their earlier works more than once. But in later novels, the authors' agenda came through much more clearly than the story.

I just finished A Private Cathedral. He needs to kill off Dave and Clete. The story lines are getting terrible

He makes me depressed.

I don't want to buy a book and then be preached to, it pretty well destroys suspension of disbelief when you can see the author's fingerprints on every page.

And it's been so long since I've read them that I don't really remember if he injected politics...but I feel the same about the series set in Florida by Tim Dorsey. I liked them for a while, but then they started seeming all the same and got boring.
