LSU Basketball Spotlight: Elbert Robinson III

With the loss of LSU's leading scorer Johnny O'Bryant to the NBA, the Tigers were looking for a replacement down low. With the addition of 7'+ big man Elbert Robinson III, the Tigers picked up a dynamic big man who the Tigers hope comes into his freshman season ready to contribute.
One of the top center prospects in the country last year, Robinson comes LSU as a skilled big guy. He isn't the fastest or quickest guy, but he is a space eating center. His defense is ahead of his offense. In his junior year, Robinson averaged 12.5 rebounds and 6 blocks per game.
The hefty lefty has good touch around the basket and strong hands that allows him to pull down rebounds in crowds. With a 7'6" wingspan, the big guy can really cover space.
Offensively, his best skill may be his passing game. In high school he was very capable of hitting a driving perimeter player on his way to the basket. He also has a left handed baby hook shot that with his length is very difficult for an opponent to stop.
ER3 lost a ton of weight over the offseason. This will hopefully help ER3 with endurance and mobility in an offense that will look to push the tempo.
What to expect from Elbert Robinson III:
Depending on matchups, Elbert Robinson will likely see starter minutes. Coach Jones could elect to go small and add a guard rather than a center to the lineup, but limited depth at guard may force his hand toward ER3.
Robinson is a guy who will take up space, rebound, and play hard defense. He has good control of his body for a big guy, which will hopefully help him stay out of foul trouble. With his size, he has always blocked/deflected shots rather than swatting shots, which should also help him stay out of foul trouble.
On offense, he has his head on a swivel and will pass the ball out of the block if he doesn't have space to work. He has a decent left hand, but his off hand is a little farther behind. Robinson will first and foremost be a defensive player who can play smart on offense.
