According to the Sun Sentinel, rumors were true that the Miami Dolphins were ready to offer a former Saints head coach Sean Payton a five-year deal worth $100 million to coach the AFC East franchise...

"#Dolphins were ready to offer Sean Payton a mega-deal worth $100 million deal over 5-years to coach the team. It would have made it just the second known $100 million coaching contract after the #Raiders gave such contract to Jon Gruden [10-years, $100M]," said Dov Kleiman.

His contract is through 2024. That is a while to wait for a coach to free up. I'd guess Miami would have pulled the trigger if the Flores situation did not blow up in the offseason. I doubt anyone who wants him to will wait 2 more years after this season. Whatever team wants a coach will give up draft picks for Payton next year.

The saints contract never runs out. He has to coach them for 2 more yrs or another team owes the saints draft picks

He left the Saints while still under contract. The Saints have to be compensated for his rights.
