Former LSU Track and Field star Mondo Duplantis competed at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting over the weekend and broke his own pole vault world record, clearing 6.19 meters. Per NBCSports:

Swede Mondo Duplantis broke the men’s pole vault world record for a third time in the last 25 months, clearing 6.19 meters, or more than 20 feet, 3 inches, in Belgrade on Monday.

Duplantis cleared 5.61, 5.85 and 6.00 meters on first attempts at an indoor meet in the Serbian capital. Having already won the competition, he moved the bar up nearly seven inches and cleared it on his third and final try.

“I think I’ve tried 6.19 50 times,” before finally clearing it, said Duplantis, a 22-year-old who started pole vaulting at age 3. “It’s been a long time coming. I’ve never had a height quite give me the trouble like that ever my entire life, and I’ve been jumping for a very long time.”

Duplantis, the Olympic champion, now owns the top three pole vaults in history.

I'm aware that Mondo's father is an American who competed at LSU and his mother is Swedish. I know he has dual citizenship. I read that track and field is bigger and more lucrative in Europe than in the U.S. and he can make more money there than here. I know he said he did not try for a position on the U.S. team because competition is tougher here and he could possibly miss out on a position on the U.S. team if he had a bad day in qualifying. I realize he grew up in Lafayette, went to school there and was given a scholarship to LSU. I know after a year at LSU he turned pro and decided to compete as a Swede in future competition. I know most other U.S. competitors do not have the privilege of selecting at national team that has the most favorable qualifying requirements. I know the Olympics are over and he continues to compete as a Swede and not an American. I'd prefer that athletes not abandon their homeland to represent another nation simply because that is easier. I think you are wrong is suggesting I have no knowledge of why he competes for Sweden

You're forgetting that his choice is not your preference.

Swede Mondo Duplantis? Born, raised and educated in the U.S. Has he finally gotten around to renouncing his U.S. citizenship like those former Americans who competed for China?

Look into things before you comment sometimes. Makes you look like an idiot.
