LSU Athletics COO Keli Zinn recently spoke with WBRZ about a possible new arena coming to LSU's campus.

Zinn said they began "aggressively pursuing" options over a year ago, working alongside the Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF), which would fund that potential cost of $400 million for the arena.

Zinn said they are proposing an arena similar to The Moody Center at the University of Texas.

The Moody Center in Austin cost around $300 million and was completely privately funded, which again is the plan for the proposed arena at LSU.

In the year since the Moody Center's opening, it has hosted big acts like Bruce Springsteen, Harry Styles, and Tim McGraw, as well serving as the home court for UT's basketball team.

"We see it really as a community asset even before an athletics asset, and I say that because there's probably an opportunity of anywhere from 60-80 events in a given year that that arena could host."
If the Metro Council decides to restrict the types of events hosted by the River Center due to developers not wanting the competition, LSU could move quickly to "at a pretty aggressive pace," Zinn said.

There are a few options for the location of the arena:

Overall, Zinn says they hope to have the arena ready to host top acts in the next five years, but first, they need to nail down a location for the potential 15,000+ seat venue.

"At this point, there are a few sites that are being looked at on LSU's campus and some opportunity that exists out near baseball and tennis and all of the acreage that currently exists within that space."

One of the locations on their list is LSU's 250-acre golf course off Nicholson and Gourrier.

Two locations that have already been researched and vetoed for being cost prohibitive—the PMAC and Bernie Moore track.

My preference is that they just renovate the PMAC. It perfectly located and is an iconic, historic structure. It should stay the heart and home of LSU basketball.

She is wrong about the Moody center, but I would expect nothing less. The Moody Foundation donated a ton of money to the project which gave UT a lot of leverage in their negotiation and will help enforce the 30 yr agreement.

Build it near TS and place several 4 and 5 star restaurants /Bars and hotels near it

Trust me LSU needs to get some quality lodging on campus for game days...build an attraction...versus everyone being eager to hit the freeway...

Great for the region. But you better address roads and parking for miles around. Already a very frustrating experience that should be part of the plan.

I went to LSU’78-‘82 & Nicholson Dr was as bad as it is now. If Walmart or Amazon were there Nicholson would be immaculate .
Parking maybe like at Mount Rushmore 3 story parking ( two sections) where over 6k cars can park. It would use less space & you actually add one or two more

They've been trying to close the golf course for years. It generates revenue so they haven't had the chance until now. It's really sad because I grew up playing that course. So much history. three phases of development so three styles of golf holes. U Club is private so forget getting a tee time.

I hope they build a parking complex and new roads to handle the traffic.

Can’t preserve the cow palace indefinitely. I’d rather move the ag center, mini farm, etc out by tennis and put the new facilty where cow palace is now

If this new arena is not meant as a replacement for the PMAC but is intended to draw performing acts, then why the hell is LSU considering it? I thought the purpose of a university was to provide a high degree of professional education - not provide entertainment venues that are the domain of parish and municipal entities.

LSU will lease the new arena to host all of the athletic events currently held in the PMAC. The new arena will be privately owned and will have nothing to do with governmental entities. After 30 years of leasing, LSU will own the new arena.

Alright. That makes a bit more sense. Thanks for the clarification.
