The big news of the weekend was Brandon Lafell announcing his decision to return to LSU for his senior season. With Lafell, Scott and Black returning, Miles gets the core senior leadership that the team lacked this past year and which was instrumental to our national title run in 2007.

After Lafell's announcement, speculation quickly turned to how this would affect Rueben Randle's decision. Randle, the highly coveted WR from Bastrop, LA, would undoubtedly benefit from playing along side a seasoned veteran like Lafell. And with the departure of Demetrius Byrd, Randle would have a great opportunity for playing time as a freshman.

In this article on his SEC Riviera Roundup Blog on TD.com, Chris Warner reviews the 2008 football season, grades the finish of each of the twelve teams, and offers bold predictions for the 2009 season, which is already less than nine short months away.

In other recruiting news, looks like Janzen Jackson's father will not be taking any job at Tennessee. Sounds like his father was having second thoughts about his potential hiring being tied to the signing of his son, and it didn't look like he had a real shot at the job. His dad was quotes as saying that LSU is still "way ahead of everybody" and he thinks that his son will be a Tigers.

Also, it appears that Dexter Pratt (RB, Navasota, TX) will not be signing with LSU, and it appears that he will now sign with Oklahoma State. In this thread on our Recruiting Board, there is a long discussion about what happened, which seems to center on Pratt not being cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse to play this fall. But others are speculating that he just changed his mind.

In LSU-related NFL news, Steelers safety Ryan Clark, who played for LSU from 1998-2001, had this crushing hit on Raven's RB Willis McGahee, who had to be carted off the field:

In basketball news, the LSU men's basketball team jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back, defeating short-handed Ole Miss, 83-51, on Saturday afternoon at Tad Smith Coliseum. TD.com resident hoops expert "Stromile Swift" breaks down the game with some very astute observations.

That's all for today...

Note: For those wondering about the new TD.com blogs feature, we haven't fully launched the feature but will do so when we have worked out all the bugs. Please realize that we still have a lot of work to do, and initially it will not include many of the bells and whistles that we plan to have.

The idea behind TD.com blogs is to give users the ability to better showcase their opinions and writings. Quite often, a person's post on a message board is lost over time, especially on the busy message boards of TD.com.

TD.com has nearly 400,000 unique visitors per month, so by blogging on TD.com, you already have a built in audience.

Blogs will be highly integrated with our popular message boards, and we will give bloggers the ability to create a blog post and have it automatically generate a post on the relevant message board with a link back to the blog post.

So far, there has been a high interest in participating in this new and exciting feature. If you are interested in blogging on TD.com, please shoot us an email at tigerdroppings@gmail.com.

Good times for LSU athletics. The football program is reeling in another top flight class and just put together one hell of a defensive coaching staff. The basketball team just put together two great games to improve their SEC record to 2-1. The baseball team is ranked as high as #1 in pre-season polls and they will be opening up the new ballpark next month!

Stro, I was reading on the Rant this weekend about some concern with the basketball program after all these seniors leave...I hate to look ahead to next year when we are still in January, but how does the 2009-10 season look?

Let's put it this way, LSU better make the most out of their chances to play in the NCAA tournament this season. LSU will be losing three starters in Chris Johnson, Garrett Temple, and Marcus Thornton. Last year may have been a blessing in disguise allowing Tasmin to come back next year. The void left by Johnson will likely be filled by redshirt Dennis Harris, medical redshirt Garrett Green, and Storm Warren. Delwan Graham will need to step up to fill in for Temple, and incoming freshman Aaron Dotson will need to contribute right away in the absence of Marcus Thornton. Dotson was a highly recruited shooting guard out of Seattle and LSU stole him away from Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals. LSU is still recruiting a couple of big men for next season, but I wouldn't say they are the leader for either one at this moment. So, things might be better this year, worse next year, and things look very bright in the future.

if -- big IF here -- we can get the big man outta california 5-star Renardo Sidney (we are in his top 5) then all will not be lost for next season...he will easily come in and contribute a la greg monroe...with him tasmin & bo + the potential of our freshman, we can still make the tourney next season

also, i'm not reading 16-pages about dexter pratt...can someone please update the original poster's post with some cliff notes???

Don't forget about Kyryl Natyazhko, who has shown some interest in LSU. He's listed at 6-10, 240 and could also provide some immediate help around the goal.
