LSU Sports Update for Friday, January 16
by Chicken
January 16, 20090 Comments
Today caps a long week for LSU football fans, as two players announced their intention to stay for their senior season, and two bid farewell to LSU...maybe.
Charles Scott and Ciron Black will be coming back, and this is great news for Gary Crowton and the LSU offense. Scott rushed for 1,174 yards and 18 touchdowns last season and was selected first team All-SEC. Black has started 40 consecutive games at tackle for LSU. Black will be called upon to bolster an offensive line that is losing Herman Johnson and Brett Helms to graduation.
Brandon Lafell has announced that he is entering the NFL draft, but since he has yet to sign with an agent, he has until Sunday afternoon to change his mind and return to LSU for his senior season.
Lafell is projected as a late first-round or early second-round pick in the NFL draft, which begins on April 25.
Andrew Hatch is leaving the team. With the emergence of Jordan Jefferson, the return of Jarrett Lee, and the arrival of Russell Shepard, Hatch really didn't have a chance to compete for playing time next season. It's been reported that Hatch is returning to Harvard.
In Recruiting news, Central HS safety Josh Johns committed to play for the Tigers yesterday. Johns, who is 6'2" 210lb, was a Class 5A all-state selection. According to this article, Johns may "grayshirt" this year, and enroll in January 2010.
In LHSAA news, supatigah dives deeper into the upcoming LHSAA Reclassification, discussing the most accurate October school enrollment numbers and giving a listing of what class each school should fall into for next school year.
In LSU Basketball News, the Men's team is gearing up for a trip to Oxford to face Ole Miss tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is at 3pm CT in Tad Smith Coliseum. LSU enters the game 13-3 (1-1). Ole Miss (10-6, 1-1) is coming off a big 74-65 win against Arkansas on Wednesday. The game tomorrow will be televised by Raycom and can be heard on the LSU Sports radio network.
The user "Stromile Swift" had a great recap of the South Carolina win and gives some good assessments of our players. He also previews tomorrow's game and gives his prediction.
That's all for today...
