There has been much debate recently as to whether or not the Tennessee Titans will draft a quarterback like Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota with the 2nd overall pick in this years draft.

Former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick by the Titans a year ago, is confident that he would beat out Winston or Mariota for the starting position if they were in-fact drafted by Tennessee. Per ESPN:
quote:

“They are obviously very talented guys,” he said. “ … If they were here I think they would say the same thing: If we had to compete out there, I think I’d beat them out.”

Mettenberger’s appearance was with his close friend, the Titans' top pick in the 2014 draft, left tackle Taylor Lewan.

Lewan loves hearing Mettenberger speak confidently.

“I think any person that doesn’t say that is not going to be successful,” he said of Mettenberger saying he’d beat out a high pick. “There are only so many positions in the NFL you can be a part of. If another guy comes in that’s a first-round pick or a second-round pick or a higher pick than you were, you either fold it up or you can take that adversity and thrive with it.”
Mettenberger, who missed the final three games of the season with a shoulder injury, said that he’s 100 percent and has been throwing.

The Titan's problems can't be solved just by drafting a top pick QB. They need basic offensive and defensive players and coaches who can actually coach. Mett could elevate a mediocre team to be competitive, where now he is being brought down by a bad team. Ownership doesn't care though, they just want another Vince Young.

if they draft a QB, Mett just needs to do like Drew did when the Chargers drafted Rivers. Seemed to work out pretty good for Drew.

It is a real shame that someone with his arm talent has to spend so much time getting pasted by the pass rush. How good could he be with protection? Seriously, hard to name 3 QB's that have a bigger arm.
