LSU freshman guard Kardell Thomas (No. 58) returned to practice on Monday for the first time since suffering an ankle injury back in fall camp that required surgery.

Head coach Ed Orgeron originally announced Thomas' injury back in August and did not give a timetable for his return or rule him out for the season. His attendance at Monday's practice certainly helps his chances of possibly playing this year if he is needed.

Thomas, a former a five-star prospect from Southern Lab in Baton Rouge, will likely be an anchor on LSU's offensive line for the next few years.

Glad to have him back. I would assume he would most likely redshirt this year. Good experience with the practices though.

There's really no reason to redshirt guys anymore if they are starting caliber players. If he can contribute this year then we should utilize him. We are on a championship run.

Play him if he's healthy and ready. Probably only have him for 3 years anyway. Probably could play him and redshirt him too though. I doubt he's ready to play if this is his first week of practice.

This is why you keep a minimum 3-deep on all 5 spots. Injuries, of course. But also they need time to steep physically and in the playbook. Tom osborne had this down and it worked.

Additionally, Kardell May have to step in if Hines/Cush/Ingram have to take a breather. 300+ lb men need these. Don’t let glen Dorsey hi lights fool you. He was an anomaly.

At the very least, he can be ready to play Ole Miss, Arky and Aggie, while still maintaining redshirt...
