On September 21st 1996, Auburn faced off against LSU in an early season SEC West division match up. While the game was supposed to take center stage, it was soon upstaged by a 4 alarm fire that broke out in a building right next to Jordan Hare Stadium. This episode of AL.com Vintage explores the tense moments of the fire and keeping it contained from the 85,000 fans watching the game 100 feet from the blaze.

Whoever did the text on that video is an idiot. The mistakes are actually kind of funny. For example, towards the end, it says the firefighter laid his head on "5 inches of hopes" hahaha. Only get good captioning like that from ole Alabama.

Another one at the end he says "that's the biggest fire I've been a part of." They translated "part of" to "four yeah". Lol.

Until I read this article, I never knew how the fire was started and what it took to contain it. I remember the game vividly, and the camera shot of the fire directly behind the stadium and wondering why they did not stop the game. Good piece and recap from another great game in the LSU/AU rivalry. Geaux Tigers!
