"is there an Odell Beckham "Sr" that I might get confused about? Why do we need to refer to him as OB "Jr"? Just Odell Beckham will suffice. "

Because, that's like, his name?

Who honestly cares what his name is? Oh wait, it's his legal name so probably the people who sign his check, banks, the IRS... basically anything to do with money which is something he's going to have a lot of thanks to his superior athletic ability. He might become Odell Beckham Jr. II just to spite people like you.

What are you talking about atltiger? Of course he his father's name sake. The first Odell Beckham was a running back for the Tigers in the 90's, he and Shaquille O'Neal were great friends while at LSU.

This seems to be a new hot trend among players. It's unnecessary and silly. Only use a suffix if there's another player by the same name that might be confusing. As in Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. Otherwise, no suffix.
