Erick Smith with USA TODAY Sports unveiled his preseason bowl projections this week and predict LSU to face Michigan Wolverines in Outback Bowl on January 1st Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

The potential matchup would be the first ever between the two schools.

LSU opens up the 2017 season Saturday night against BYU in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA. Michigan will open with the Florida Gators at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas at 2:30 pm CT.

I hate these damn pre-season bowl predictions. We can go 10-2 and end up in the Citrus or the Orange. Just let me know when we actually know

Out of all of the preseason polls, this makes the least sense. No way of knowing the teams records or if they'll be in the playoffs or if a certain bowl would even be interested. Just something to write about, I guess.

So, Bowl officials don't have to respect Les's wishes anymore and not pit these two teams against his wishes, NICE, but this is a PLAYOFF.

I'm all for this matchup, but wish it would be in a better bowl. I think Michigan would agree with me that outback bowl is selling themselves low.
