FootballScoop.com has reported that LSU general manager Austin Thomas is being considered as a possible candidate for a similar role on Jeremy Pruitt's staff at Tennessee.

Thomas, a native of Franklin, Tenn., received his master's degree in sports management from Tennessee and worked for the Vols under former coach Lane Kiffin. He also has the same agent as new Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Tennessee: Sources tell FootballScoop there is chatter of LSU general manager Austin Thomas being a candidate for a somewhat similar role at Tennessee. We understand Thomas is head down, working as usual at LSU at this time. Unclear at this time whether an offer has been extended or not; but we do note that Jeremy Pruitt and Thomas share the same agent. Thomas, who is from Tennessee, turned down multiple opportunities last off-season with NFL teams (per sources) to remain at LSU with Ed Orgeron.
Thomas is the SEC's only general manager and just finished his fifth season on LSU's staff. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

The first General Manager in the history of the Southeastern Conference and one of two in the nation, Thomas leads the way in the oversight and management of the entire LSU Football program. One of the top personnel managers in all of college football, Thomas works closely with NFL personnel to maximize the opportunity for LSU student-athletes as the next level.

In Thomas' first two seasons at LSU, he helped the Tigers claim back-to-back Top 5 signing classes in 2014 and 2015, which included signing the nation's top overall player in 2014. He was named the Personnel Director of the Year in 2015 and a finalist for the award in 2014.

I knew Austin was an asset to the program, but I didn’t know to what extent. Obviously, he handles all aspects of the program, including recruiting. And as such, I agree, a raise is in order to keep him at LSU and show appreciation for his hard work!

I don’t think LSU takes a big hit if he leaves. It’s a role that anyone can do. He’s essentially just an office assistant and won’t recruit anymore now that Pete Jenkins is going away. That new position coach will recruit.

Austin is a gem of a guy and a heck of a leader and recruiter. Coach O definitely doesn’t want to lose this guy, but I know his family and he’s a TN guy so this could be a good move for him and his family. I hope we don’t lose him, but understand why he’s a hot commodity.
