As we posted earlier today, Brian Kelly's new on-field coaching staff is just about set with the exception of a new wide receiver coach.

Multiple sources are reporting that LSU's top target to take over the wide receiver job would be Georgia passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton.

Hankton, a native of New Orleans, La., played high school football at St. Augustine and then went on to play collegiately at Texas Southern. He spent several seasons playing in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following his time in the NFL, Hankton played two seasons in the UFL.

Hankton began his coaching career as a wide receiver coach for Dartmouth from 2012–2014 and then was the wide receiver coach at Vanderbilt from 2015–2017.

He joined Georgia's staff as a wide receiver coach in 2018 and was promoted to pass-game coordinator & wide receivers coach in 2019.

Is it possible to bring in too many coaches with Louisiana ties? Obviously it’s a great state for talent, but it just seems like every new coach I read about is from or coached in Louisiana. We won’t be able to say he isn’t trying to lock down the state.

I hate people. People get mad that we hire Kelly over Napier because he isn’t from here. Napier is one of us type stuff, and then now people complain that the staff has too many people from Louisiana on it. Get out of here.
