LSU’S GUICE NAMED MAXWELL AWARD NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

BATON ROUGE – Derrius Guice’s 276-yard rushing performance in LSU’s win over Ole Miss has earned him the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week honors, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday.

It’s the second straight week that an LSU player has been honored by the Maxwell Football Club. Last week, linebacker Devin White was named the Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Week for his 15-tackle, 1-sack effort in the win over Auburn.

The Maxwell Award National Player of the Week is given each week to the player with the overall performance on offense, defense or special teams.

Against Ole Miss, Guice averaged 12.5 yards on 22 carries as he became the first player in SEC history to have three 250-yard rushing games in a career. Guice owns the LSU single-game rushing record with 285 yards against Texas A&M last year. He also rushed for 252 yards last season against Arkansas.

Guice’s 276 yards against the Rebels ranks as the third-highest total in LSU history and is the fifth-most in the FBS this season.

Guice, a junior from Baton Rouge, earned the league’s offensive player of the week honor for the first time this year and the fourth time of his career.

For the season, Guice has rushed for 711 yards and six touchdowns. He currently ranks No. 2 in the SEC in total yards and yards per game (101.6).

If he has a big game at Bama and we win, he gets thrown right back into the Heisman race. They will embrace the "he was injured narrative".

When a player is injured or out, and they return and return to form, what is it that SHOULD keep them out of the Heisman race?
