LSU junior defensive tackle Mickey Johnson is seeking a transfer to another school according to Jim Kleinpeter with NOLA.com:
quote:

Johnson, a four-star recruit from St. Paul's in Covington, said he has not been given a release but expects to get one when he graduates in August. He said he will likely not participate in spring practice.

"(Defensive line) Coach Brick (Haley) said it wouldn't be a problem, but nothing officially until I graduate in August," Johnson said about getting the release. "That way I can be eligible immediately."

If he's graduating, why is he talking about releases at all? If he graduates, he just has to transfer somewhere that has a grad program that LSU doesn't. No release needed, no restrictions on which schools he can pick, and he'd be eligible right away.

Not sure why they never got him on the field, even against scrub teams. Respect him always being a good representative for the University.

So does Brick commenting on him transferring give some indication that he will be staying?

Mickey is a great kid. Best of luck to him.

We probably should have moved him to the OL years ago.

No way the coaches release him and let him play in the SEC

Probably the strongest guy on the team, but just can't crack the rotation. Hopefully, he won't stay in the SEC. Maybe he could go to LA Tech or ULL and play immediately.

Any story on why he never played? I remember the huge near meltdown involving his recruiting.
