Former LSU defensive tackle Mickey Johnson told The News-Star on Tuesday afternoon that he is transferring to Louisiana Tech.

Johnson recorded just three tackles last year during his junior season. He verbally committed to Tech coaches during a visit to Ruston last weekend.
quote:

"The people. I like the atmosphere. Great people up in Ruston," Johnson said of his decision. "Everybody had a smile on their face. Also, the other players I'll be around. There's not one guy on that team I feel I wouldn't trust. They're all great guys in that program and that's what sold me on it."

Johnson plans to graduate from LSU the first week of August and will be eligible to play immediately. In the meantime, he said he'll continue to workout at LSU until he makes the full transition to Ruston.
Johnson, who was a four-star prospect out of St. Paul's High School in Covington, La., finishes his career at LSU by playing in just seven games with six total tackles.

Always liked him. Class guy. Wish he would have played more. He was a beast in powerlifting in high school.
