LSU junior edge rusher Arden Key will miss the at least half of fall camp, according to The Advocate.

Head coach Ed Orgeron was at an Eagle 98.1 Kickoff Party at Walk On’s in New Orleans on Thursday and provided a few updates on Key, who is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Edge rusher Arden Key will miss, at least, the first half of the Tigers’ preseason camp while he continues recovery from shoulder surgery, and coaches won’t know his status for the season opener until the end of August.

“We don’t know when he’s going to be ready, but obviously we expect him to play this year and have a great year. We won’t know (his playing status) until the end of camp,” Orgeron said during an Eagle 98.1 Kickoff Party at Walk On’s in New Orleans. “I’m going to listen to the doctors. Some days he’s able to get into uniform and practice, he’s going to do that, but I don’t see that happening in the next couple of weeks.”

Sounds pretty ideal. Less wear and tear. He can play spot duty until conference games get here as far as I'm concerned.

Don't see how he won't be rusty. He hasn't practiced football since the bowl game, won't get much work in camp, had a surgery that has limited his chance to lift and get stronger, put on some bad body weight. I hope people are tempering their expectations a bit with Key this year. I'm not expecting a sack per game like last year, doesn't seem realistic given his offseason. He was dominant last year, will be hard to maintain that level.

He does football workouts on his own everyday, the majority of what he does is straight rush the passer and hold the edge, not that hard of a concept to grasp

I'm really hoping he does not come back a little rusty.

Let him rest up and be fresh for the opener. He knows the position. Let the younger guys get some reps. Create good depth. Key will wreak havoc when the time comes!

Shid as long as he's back in fall camp at some point. That means he's only missing like 2-3 weeks. That's a good thing.

Give him all the time he needs. We are deep at DE and maybe we can get some of the newbies a little playing time. If Key has to miss a week or two of tge season then so be it.

What about OLB?

Plenty of guys that can fill the role at buck. It'll be a great opportunity to get those guys (Thornton, Anthony, Chaisson) some quality in-game reps. We'll probably need those guys later in the season.

I can't figure out of Arden is playing Coach O or if Coach O is playing us. But no doubt someone is being played like a fiddle.

No need to rush him back. If we cant win all our games before Florida without him, we have problems.

It is what it is at this point. Just hope he's ready before SEC play

Like the frog in boiling water concept, the date will continue to be gradually pushed back.
