LSU head coach Ed Orgeron commented on the team's offensive struggles during his weekly press conference on Monday. Here's what he had to say:
quote:

QUESTION: What do you think it takes, it will take to find the offense that you had against Georgia, it's been a real struggle over the last month. Do you think it's not only execution but scouting or are people taking things away from you? What do you think is happening there?

ED ORGERON: Yeah, I think for some how some way we lost our identity since the Georgia game. We're trying new things, maybe we're trying to get a little too, put too much in, we need to simplify. I asked Steve to go back and look at the game and figure out what we did right there because we were clicking pretty good that game and let's look at the things that we did, I think it's more or less to simplify. We're putting too many things in, are we trying to cover up some things that are some weaknesses, maybe. Maybe some times we feel like we're handcuffed, we can't get as many receivers out as we want to or something like that because of protection or whatever it may be. But I did ask him to go back and look at the Georgia game, look at what we did well, simplify and today we're going to do a lot of that stuff and look at what the guys are doing to us on defense, the defenses that are giving us problems, have answers for those defenses because we're going to see them again.

QUESTION: You just talked a lot about the offensive issues but seemed like the last few games the screen game in particular has really been taken away a lot. What do you think the issues might be there?

ED ORGERON: We looked at it yesterday, and we looked at tendencies, we looked at on the down and distance we called it, we looked at formation, we looked at what are we giving away, what are they doing to take away from us. And you're exactly right it's not working. We had a screen cut up and we looked at it as a staff yesterday and some things we have identified. So we have to do some things different to help us in the screen game, obviously it's important in our package.

QUESTION: Is there anything you observed about Burrow and Jefferson that makes them such a big combo?

ED ORGERON: Yeah, I think that first of all, I really like the techniques that Jerry Sullivan has taught our guys. You can see, especially against press coverage, you can see the foot work and guys are getting free, guys are getting open, I thought Steve dialed up the game plan on the, in the passing game, the crossing routes were wide open. Those things are working well. I do expect Joe to play better. He's had some really good games, he's had some okay games, and he knows that, he's a competitor. I would expect him to pick up his game the next couple games.

"But I did ask him to go back and look at the Georgia game, look at what we did well,...and look at what the guys are doing to us on defense, the defenses that are giving us problems, have answers for those defenses because we're going to see them again." WOW. Shouldnt they be doing this every week? Does this staff not self-scout? Les Miles v.2.0 Time to reboot to a new operating system.

Get an OC who has proven he can coach against the elite in college football!!! When Saban loses a coordinator what does he do? That is one of the main reason's he has been as successful as he has. He gets coordinators who are GOOD!!! LSU had a GOOD one in Matt Canada and what does Ole Ed do? He runs him off. That was Miles problem and now Ed is doing the same BS. It's sickening!!!

The 36 points against UGA doesnt tell the real story. We kicked 5 fricking FGs and UGA turned the ball numerous times in their own territory which gave us a short field. We ran the ball well but our passing numbers were still shitty (50% completion/ 0 TDs) and we were terrible on 3rd down (6 for 19). The offense has been bad all season... the defense is the reason we're 8-2. Coach O said we lost our identity?... WE NEVER HAD ONE!

This is sincerely the most depressing football related story I have ever read on tigerdroppings. Let’s look at the one and only game we had success and simplify. Amazing.

No you’ve lost it because you were exposed for who you are and who Ensminger is - fraud

How do you lose a 4 play identity? We never had one O, because you and Ensminger are in way over your heads. Time to rid us of this experiment. We deserve so much better.

Dude we will be in a new York six bowl. Do you know the last we were in a major bowl game????? 2012. That's called improvement not an experiment. I'm not a fan of our offense right now but the coach O bashing at this point shows that you know jack.

I look at some of the OCs out there like Kendall Briles, FAU was first in total offense last year, UH is I think 3rd this year, Baylor crazy his last 3 years there. I know he has that Baylor stink on him, just makes me wonder what he could do hear with our players.

What identity?

Geauxsimon79 months
Go get Hugh Freeze or Briles and you'll see a change in production, scoring and dynamic game plans that limits other defenses effectiveness...I hate to say it because I like Coach and Ensminger, but until we go big and get the right guy we will continue to have an archaic offense.

The bar has been set so low that there’s hardly any daylight between where it is and the bottom of the barrel. Do you now see the dangers of hanging on to inept coaches too long? This is Les Miles, Part II.
