During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, head coach Ed Orgeron talked about sensational sophomore linebacker Devin White who he compared to NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp.

Orgeron coached Sapp when he was the defensive line coach at Miami (FL) in 1992.
quote:

“He’s done a fantastic job for us, not only on the field but off the field with his leadership. He’s a very special player for us, and he’s only getting better. … The last time I had a sophomore like that was Warren Sapp at Miami.”
Through seven games this season, White leads the SEC in both tackles (77) and tackles per game (11.0). He ranks third nationally in total tackles and has 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

White was named Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his dominant performance vs. Auburn.

Watching blitz like he did on Saturday brought back memories of Laron Landry style blitzing. Missed seeing that.

Blitzing, yes. Of course, Landry was a safety. Devin a LB. I’m sure you know that, just pointing out the similarities and differences. Both great players!

Isn’t this 2 weeks in a row for Devin as POTW?

2nd time in a row for SEC Defensive player of the week. 1st time he was "LSU linebacker Devin White was named the Chuck Bednarik Award National Player of the Week on Tuesday for his dominant performance vs. Auburn." National defensive player of the week.

LSU hasn't seen an inside linebacker like this since A.J. Duhe.

Great comparison. Loved watching him play. White is a heck of faster than AJ though. AJ was so good at shedding blocks it was crazy even in he NFL.

Showing your age with the Duhe reference, in a good way! I’ showing mine by remembering who you’re talking about. Lol. AJ was very good, wasn’t he?

I think Sapp was originally a tight end and made the switch to defense early in his college career. Somewhat similar path for Devin.
