While meeting with the media after practice on Wednesday, head coach Ed Orgeron said that four-star defensive tackle signee Tyler Shelvin is still not cleared to join the team but could arrive within the week.

Shelvin recently completed required summer coursework but his transcripts now must be approved by the NCAA clearinghouse.

Shelvin, a 6-3, 323-pound prospect from Lafayette, LA (Northside), was rated as the No. 3 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 1 overall player in the state of Louisiana for the class of 2017, according to ESPN.

Some of these kids do not get the help they need in highschool but when they get to college, the AD has systems and resources to help with tutoring etc. They will actually be better students in college than highschool because the support system that schools like LSU have available. Having said that the NCAA clearing house is a joke. They have all of the urgency of a snell.

It's frustrating that it takes so long to get this kid cleared but all this would have been avoided if he was smart enough to actually try in school. It's always baffling to me how some kids can't pass high school, especially when they know that they want to play D1 athletics and have a scholarship on the line.

I completely agree with you. It's high school, not Harvard.

Again, Alabama doesn't put up with this crap. If he were there, he would've been in camp long ago

Well, when your coach and the president of the NCAA are buds AND the league office is in your back pocket, what can we expect?
