On Monday, LSU coach Brian Kelly was asked about some of the struggles in the running game vs. Ole Miss, as the running backs gained just 68 yards on 22 carries.
To explain some of Saturday night's issues, Kelly revealed how the coaches grade the rushing attack and what needs to happen to fix it.
According to Kelly, they consider "successful" running plays four yards or more, or a first down on a critical down like 3rd and 1.

"We had nine successful plays and ten unsuccessful plays," Kelly said. "We also had four plays that were a wash because they were for 3.8 or 3.9 yards, and we consider those a wash."
"The unsuccessful plays were across the board. It was not pushing and cracking a safety. It was the quarterback not getting us into the right play. It was the running back not reading the correct hole. It was the tight end not reaching the end and allowing it to stretch on the outside zone."
"My point is that it's a little bit of everything. We're not in sync with all of our guys coming together as one in the running game. We have to do a better job coaching it, across all groups. Everyone has to do a better job."
"We want about a 65% success rate in the run game. We're not there, and we need to get there to be the kind of offense we want to be."

"We're exceptional pass blockers. We need to be exceptional run blockers, too, and we are capable of doing that, but we need some help. We're rolling our sleeves up and getting after it every day in practice. The guys are committed to it, and there is more out there for us. "
