The LSU coaching staff landed a huge commitment on Friday afternoon when four-star defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy announced his verbal pledge to the Tigers.

The 6-4, 288-pound prospect from Baton Rouge (University Lab) chose LSU over Alabama and Texas A&M.

Roy is rated the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country, and the No. 1 overall player from the state of Louisiana for the class of 2020, according to Rivals. He was a one-time LSU commit but reopened his recruitment in late February and is now back on board with the Tigers.

LSU now has 22 verbal commits for the class of 2020, with the addition of Roy.

Love it. Is anyone else wondering where we’re going to put all these D-Line studs? That’s like 4 or 5 four star or higher D-Linemen we’ve got committed for 2020.

Don’t put too much weight on those supposed “Star” ratings! Remember, Jacob Hester was a 2 star!

Honey Badger was poorly rated and our best WR, Justin Jefferson, was an after thought.

Great job Coach O, especially with coach meatball. I like how he has groomed coach meatball into an image of him. I think he will be a great defensive line coach.

Oh yeah, we must also sign DT Maason Smith in the 2021 recruiting class and then we will be loaded up on the defensive line for a while. To compete at the upper echelon of the SEC, a team must have a very strong defensive line and a very good QB.

Now hopefully we finish with at least Jacobian Guillory, Sedrick Van Pran, Ashaad Johnson, and Marcus Dumervil. Which also means one of the lower-ranked recruits will have to be let go. I'm guessing it will be Ali Gaye, who was probably offered as an insurance policy in case LSU missed on the other defensive linemen recruits. In fact, I'm thinking Patrick Jenkins who came out of nowhere got his spot.

If LSU is in a position where they must pull an offer from a commit, I'd say Gaye is the first to go. Don't get me wrong, I think the dude is going to be a very good football player, but right now he is too light to play on the line in the SEC. 270 just isn't heavy enough to play DE or OT in the SEC. And since the 2019 season will be his 3rd out of HS, he will only have 2 years when he gets on campus. Just might not have the time to get him SEC ready. It's taken last season and this summer to get Badora SEC ready, Gaye looks like he will be the same. Just depends on if the coaches want to take the time or bring in a HS project they will have 4 or 5 years with. But, that's who I'd start the trimming with. And, depending on how this season goes, they may have to trim a few more. There's several big-time players interested in LSU and how they do this season. Chris Braswell, Zac Evans, Philip Webb just to name a few.
