LSU offensive line coach Jeff Grimes will be leaving the Tigers after the Citrus Bowl to start his duties as the new offensive coordinator at BYU.

Over the past several weeks, Grimes has been recruiting for the Tigers, coaching the current LSU players in practice for the Citrus Bowl and working on a deal to take the next step in his coaching career.

On Wednesday, head coach Ed Orgeron had nothing but great things to say about Grimes who recruited and signed a great offensive line group for the class of 2018.

LSU announced earlier this week that James Cregg would replace Grimes as the Tigers new offensive line coach. Cregg is currently an assistant offensive line coach with the Los Angeles Chargers and will join the staff after the NFL season.

Cregg coached with Orgeron at Tennessee in 2009 and they served on the same staff a Southern Cal for four years from 2010-13.

One of the more underrated coaches, what he did this year should solidify how good of a teacher he was with at time starting 3 true freshman. Its LSU, our fans will always find something to complain about.

The mark of a good coach is to take what you have and show improvement from week to week. At times, Grimes didn’t have much to work with except true freshman. But credit him and the players for sticking with the system and improving dramatically over the course of the season! And continuing to recruit hard and preparing and coaching the team in the bowl game just solidifies the character of this man. We need more like him in sports these days. I wish Jeff and his family much success in his future endeavors and beyond. And thanks for being a Tiger!
