The Associated Press unveils their list of Top 100 College Basketball Programs of all time this week and pegged LSU at No. 47.
quote:

To determine the all-time Top 100, the AP formula counted poll appearances (one point each) to mark consistency and No. 1 rankings (two points each) to acknowledge elite programs. Keep in mind that AP doesn’t release a poll after the NCAA Tournament, so eventual national champions are not factored into these rankings. Instead, this list focuses more on those programs that consistently appear in the poll and/or at the top during the regular seasons.
Here is the complete top 25:
1. KENTUCKY (1,111 Points)
2. NORTH CAROLINA (1,098 Points)
3. DUKE (1,032 Points)
4. UCLA (957 Points)
5. KANSAS (857 Points)
6. INDIANA (662 Points)
7. LOUISVILLE (627 Points)
8. ARIZONA (594 Points)
9. SYRACUSE (581 Points)
10. CINCINNATI (500 Points)
11. ILLINOIS (479 Points)
12. OHIO STATE (453 Points)
13. MICHIGAN STATE (434 Points)
14. MICHIGAN (423 Points)
15. GEORGETOWN (421 Points)
16. CONNECTICUT (402 Points)
17. MARYLAND (400 Points)

"Keep in mind that AP doesn’t release a poll after the NCAA Tournament, so eventual national champions are not factored into these rankings." Which means it also doesn't take into account Sweet 16's, Elite 8's, and Final 4's. List is dumb. Best regular season teams of all time!

So it uses how many times a team is ranked in the AP poll. The first multiple weeks of each year always puts the powerhouses at the top even if they end up out of the top 25. LSU accumulated points 2 years ago when they were top 25 half the year due to an inflated preseason ranking. THE ONLY POLL THAT MATTERS IS THE FINAL POLL.

That's some breaking news there.

Actually, the top 9 looks about right. A lot of wins and NC's in that group. Would think UConn would have been a little higher. I assume LSU's ranking was based mostly on the Dale Brown era. But, like most of you have stated, pretty much meaningless.

So, if Duke and NC are always ranked No.1, nobody else gets those points. Easy for someone to break the Top 50. Basketball is so screwed up for the ACC.
