BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU men’s basketball team defeated Boston College, 78-69, in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday night in the Conte Forum.

With the win, LSU collected its eighth consecutive victory to start the season, improving to 8-0 overall. The Eagles drop to 4-5 on the season.

In the first half, LSU built an 11-point lead, 37-26. The Tigers shot 17-of-35 (48.6%) from the floor and collected 25 rebounds, including 17 on the defensive end. Boston College went 10-of-26 (38.5%) and just 4-of-9 (44.4%) from the arc.

LSU lost its advantage in the second half as the Eagles outscored it, 35-24. The Tigers made 9-of-34 (26.5%) field goals to the Eagles 13-of-28 (46.4%). With just 00:21 remaining in the second half, LSU junior Dedan Thomas Jr. made a layup to tie the game, 61-61, and force overtime.

LSU clutched the win in overtime finishing with 3-of-3 (100%) from the field, 1-of-1 (100%) from the arc and 10-of-10 (100%) free throws. Boston College scored just 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the free throw line. LSU senior Max Mackinnon knocked down a three-pointer with 01:46 left to give the Tigers a seven-point lead.

Marquel Sutton notched a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Dedan Thomas Jr. led the Tigers in scoring with 23 points to go with seven assists. Max Mackinnon and Michael Nwoko also scored in double figures tallying 12 points.

Luke Toews was the leading scorer for Boston College, finishing with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The Tigers are back on the court Sunday, Dec. 7, traveling to face Texas Tech in the Coast to Coast Challenge. The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. CT at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
